  • How to Prepare an Invoice in Pakistan (2026 Checklist)

Try it yourself: Use our free Invoice Generator tool — no signup, no watermark.

A clear invoice helps a client understand what they owe and when payment is due. This checklist separates an ordinary payment request from a regulated tax invoice. Using a template alone does not establish tax compliance.

    What Every Invoice Needs

Whether or not you are registered for sales tax, every invoice should include a handful of basics: your business name and address, a unique invoice number and consistent records, the date of issue, a clear description of what was sold or the service performed, the quantity and unit price, and the total amount due. If you are registered for sales tax, Section 23 of the Sales Tax Act adds a few more requirements.

If You Are Registered for Sales Tax

    • Your sales tax registration number, or STRN.
    • The buyer’s name, address and registration number for business to business sales.
    • The value of the supply excluding tax.
    • The sales tax amount, shown as a separate line.
    • The total including tax.

For regulated tax invoices, check section 23 of the current Sales Tax Act, current notifications and any electronic-invoicing obligations. Required fields and buyer identification depend on the transaction. Do not assume a simple PDF or retail receipt satisfies every case.

    The Standard Sales Tax Rate

Section 3 of the Sales Tax Act, as amended through 30 June 2026, states an 18% general federal rate for taxable supplies and imports, subject to exceptions. Services can fall under provincial or other regimes. Confirm the applicable rate and authority for your supply before entering tax in the tool.

Do You Actually Need to Charge Sales Tax

Sales-tax registration and the treatment of the supply determine whether tax can or must be charged. An NTN is not an STRN. Do not collect federal sales tax merely because the template has a tax field. Check registration obligations and exemptions with the relevant authority or adviser.

Invoicing Foreign Clients as a Freelancer

For overseas clients, clearly state the service, currency, payment terms and your business details. Keep the invoice and bank remittance records. Export income, withholding and sales-tax treatment depend on the service, registration, tax year and applicable law; an overseas customer does not automatically make a transaction tax-free.

This guide does not prescribe an IT-export withholding rate or a banking-channel percentage. Check the current Income Tax Ordinance, FBR guidance and any PSEB eligibility conditions for your own situation.

    FBR Digital Invoicing

FBR’s prescribed electronic-invoicing system involves integration and reporting requirements for covered registered persons. A PDF created with GoZapTools is a standalone document: this tool has no FBR integration, unique FBR invoice number or reporting connection. Use compliant integrated software when those requirements apply.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an NTN just to send someone an invoice? Not for a basic invoice on a small transaction, but you generally need an NTN to operate formally as a business or freelancer, file taxes, and work with clients who require your tax details for their own records.

What happens if I forget to add GST on a taxable invoice? If you are registered for sales tax and issue an invoice on a taxable supply without charging GST, you are still liable to account for that tax to FBR, it does not simply go away. It is best corrected before filing rather than discovered later.

Can I invoice in a foreign currency? Yes, invoices to foreign clients are commonly issued in US dollars or another foreign currency. For your own domestic tax records you would typically convert the amount to Pakistani rupees at the applicable exchange rate.

Do sole proprietors need a separate business bank account? Keep clear business records and check your bank’s account requirements and applicable reporting rules. This invoice tool does not determine those obligations.

  • Pakistan Salary Tax Slabs 2026-27: How Much Income Tax Will You Pay

Try it yourself: Use our free Payslip Generator tool — no signup, no watermark.

Your payslip shows a tax deduction every month, but most salaried people in Pakistan could not tell you why the number is what it is. This guide walks through the actual FY 2026-27 income tax slabs, shows worked examples at a few common salary levels, and explains how the tax-free threshold and slab math actually work.

The FY 2026-27 Income Tax Slabs

For FY 2026–27 (normally tax year 2027), these rates are from the Income Tax Ordinance amended through 30 June 2026, First Schedule, Part I, Division I, clause (2). The salaried table applies where salary exceeds 75% of taxable income. Figures below are annual taxable income, not automatically gross pay:

    • Up to Rs 600,000 a year, or Rs 50,000 a month: 0 percent, fully exempt.
    • Rs 600,001 to Rs 1,200,000: 1 percent of the amount above Rs 600,000.
    • Rs 1,200,001 to Rs 2,200,000: Rs 6,000 plus 11 percent of the amount above Rs 1,200,000.
    • Rs 2,200,001 to Rs 3,200,000: Rs 116,000 plus 20 percent of the amount above Rs 2,200,000.
    • Rs 3,200,001 to Rs 4,100,000: Rs 316,000 plus 25 percent of the amount above Rs 3,200,000.
    • Rs 4,100,001 to Rs 5,600,000: Rs 541,000 plus 29 percent of the amount above Rs 4,100,000.
    • Rs 5,600,001 to Rs 7,000,000: Rs 976,000 plus 32 percent of the amount above Rs 5,600,000.
    • Above Rs 7,000,000: Rs 1,424,000 plus 35 percent of the amount above Rs 7,000,000.

One notable change this year: the 9 percent surcharge that previously applied on top of tax for incomes above Rs 10 million has been abolished.

Worked Examples at Common Salary Levels

Slab math is easier to follow with real numbers. Here is the annual and monthly tax at four monthly salary examples, assuming all of the stated salary is taxable, is received for 12 months, and there are no other deductions, income or tax credits:

    • Rs 75,000 a month, Rs 900,000 a year: annual tax about Rs 3,000, monthly tax about Rs 250, take home about Rs 74,750.
    • Rs 150,000 a month, Rs 1,800,000 a year: annual tax about Rs 72,000, monthly tax about Rs 6,000, take home about Rs 144,000.
    • Rs 300,000 a month, Rs 3,600,000 a year: annual tax about Rs 416,000, monthly tax about Rs 34,667, take home about Rs 265,333.
    • Rs 500,000 a month, Rs 6,000,000 a year: annual tax about Rs 1,104,000, monthly tax about Rs 92,000, take home about Rs 408,000.

Notice how the effective tax rate rises gradually rather than jumping. At Rs 150,000 a month you are technically in the 11 percent slab, but your effective rate on the whole salary works out closer to 4 percent, because only the portion above Rs 1,200,000 a year is taxed at 11 percent, not the whole amount.

What Counts Toward Taxable Salary Income

Taxable salary can include pay, allowances, bonuses and taxable benefits. Exemptions and credits have specific conditions; do not assume provident-fund or gratuity contributions automatically reduce the taxable amount. Ask payroll to identify the taxable base and adjustments used for your deduction.

    How Withholding Actually Works

Employers do not wait until the end of the year to collect your tax. Under Section 149 of the Income Tax Ordinance, your employer estimates your annual tax liability at the start of the year, or when your salary changes, and deducts a proportional amount, usually roughly one twelfth of it, from each month’s pay. This is why your payslip already shows tax withheld rather than a lump sum due in one month. If your income changes partway through the year, for example a raise or a bonus, your employer should recalculate and adjust the remaining months accordingly.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Rs 600,000 threshold based on annual or monthly income? It is an annual figure. Rs 600,000 a year works out to Rs 50,000 a month, so anyone earning at or below that gross monthly salary, with no other income, generally owes no income tax.

Do these slabs apply to freelancers and business income too? These specific slabs are for salaried individuals. Non salaried and business income in Pakistan is taxed under a separate rate schedule, which can differ from the salaried slabs shown here.

Why did my monthly tax deduction change even though my salary did not? Your employer periodically re-estimates your annual tax liability, and adjustments elsewhere, such as a bonus paid earlier in the year or a correction to a previous estimate, can shift what gets withheld in later months.

Do I still need to file a tax return if my employer already deducts tax? In most cases, yes. Filing an annual return is generally required for salaried individuals above certain income levels, and being an active filer also affects the withholding tax rates you pay on other transactions throughout the year.

  • How to Calculate Your Loan EMI in Pakistan (2026 Guide)

Try it yourself: Use our free Loan EMI Calculator tool — no signup, no watermark.

Whether you are financing a car, a home, or taking a personal loan, your EMI, or equal monthly installment, is the number that decides how comfortable your budget feels for the next several years. This guide walks through the formula banks use, a full worked example in Pakistani rupees, and the factors that push your EMI up or down.

    What Is an EMI

An EMI is the fixed amount you pay your bank every month until a loan is fully repaid. Each installment covers two things: a portion of the principal, the amount you borrowed, and a portion of interest, the cost of borrowing. Early in the loan, more of each payment goes toward interest. Later, more goes toward principal, even though the EMI amount itself stays the same for a fixed rate loan.

    The EMI Formula

Banks calculate EMI using a standard formula.

EMI equals P times R times (1+R) to the power N, divided by (1+R) to the power N minus 1.

Where P is the principal loan amount, R is the monthly interest rate, meaning your annual rate divided by 12 and by 100, and N is the total number of monthly installments, meaning your loan tenure in months.

A Worked Example: Rs 1,000,000 Over 5 Years

Say you borrow Rs 1,000,000 at an illustrative 15 percent annual rate, repaid over 5 years, or 60 months. Plugging that into the formula gives:

    • Monthly rate: 1.25 percent
    • Tenure: 60 months
    • Monthly EMI: approximately Rs 23,790
    • Total amount repaid: approximately Rs 1,427,396
    • Total interest paid: approximately Rs 427,396

That works out to roughly 43 percent of your principal paid in interest alone, spread across 60 payments. This is exactly the kind of calculation our Loan EMI Calculator does instantly, along with a full month by month amortization schedule.

    How Tenure Changes Your EMI

Using the same Rs 1,000,000 loan at 15 percent, here is how stretching or shortening the tenure changes what you pay:

    • 2 years: EMI about Rs 48,487, total interest about Rs 163,680
    • 3 years: EMI about Rs 34,665, total interest about Rs 247,952
    • 5 years: EMI about Rs 23,790, total interest about Rs 427,396
    • 7 years: EMI about Rs 19,297, total interest about Rs 620,927

A longer tenure lowers your monthly payment but increases the total interest you pay over the life of the loan, since you are borrowing the bank’s money for longer. A shorter tenure does the opposite: higher monthly pressure on your budget, but a smaller total cost.

    What Affects Your EMI

Principal amount. Borrow more, pay more each month, all else equal.

Interest rate. Even a one or two percentage point difference changes your total cost meaningfully over a multi year loan.

Tenure. As shown above, a longer repayment period lowers the monthly amount but raises the total interest.

Rate type. Fixed rate loans keep the same EMI throughout. Variable or KIBOR linked loans can change your EMI as the benchmark rate moves.

Use the rate in your bank’s quote

The 15% rate in these examples is an assumption, not a current bank offer. For variable finance, use the benchmark, bank margin and reset terms specified in your agreement. Fees, insurance, taxes, grace periods and payment timing can change the actual amount. Compare the bank’s repayment schedule with the calculator.

Fixed Rate or KIBOR Linked, Which Should You Choose

For a fixed-rate amortizing loan, the modeled installment stays constant. A variable-rate agreement can change installments or tenure at its reset dates. Compare both using the contract terms and a range of rates; the calculator does not forecast rates or determine which product is suitable for you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Does a longer loan tenure always cost more overall? For the same positive rate and principal in a standard EMI structure, a longer tenure means more total interest paid, even though the monthly installment is smaller. Use a calculator to compare tenures before deciding.

Why does my EMI stay the same but my loan balance not drop evenly? Interest is calculated on your outstanding balance. Early payments are interest heavy, later payments are principal heavy, even though the EMI itself does not change on a fixed rate loan.

Can I pay off my loan early? Many Pakistani banks allow early repayment or partial prepayment, sometimes with a fee. Check your loan agreement, since paying down principal early can meaningfully cut your total interest.

What is the difference between markup and interest? Financing products can use different legal and repayment structures. This tool models a conventional equal-payment reducing-balance loan. It is not a product-specific Islamic-finance schedule or a Shariah certification; use the lender’s schedule for your agreement.

    Calculate Your Own EMI

Skip the manual math. Our Loan EMI Calculator computes your monthly installment instantly, in any currency, with a full amortization schedule so you can see exactly how much of each payment goes toward interest versus principal.

Calculation assumptions: equal monthly payments, a constant annual nominal rate divided by 12, no fees and no extra payments. At 0% interest the installment is principal divided by months. Reviewed 8 October 2026.
